If Diner can be turned into a Sheryl Crow musical, then why not? is perhaps the thinking behind plans to adapt Mike Myers’s 1997 spy spoof (and, we’d assume, many of the other recent movie-to-musical projects) for the stage. “Page Six” reports that Myers is in talks to develop and help write the musical, “but he will not star in it, even though he has quite a good singing voice.” (He is also a talented beat poet.) Presumably, the musical would involve lots of go-go dancing and a climactic “I Touch Myself” number, though whether it will be enough to revive Austin Powers as a relevant Halloween costume remains to be seen. (Probably not.) The resurgence of shag as a verb has promise, though.
