Even though he was the first guy cast as the mysterious but tortured Fifty Shades leading man Christian Grey, Charlie Hunnam hasn’t sat through Grey to see what could have been. The Lost City of Z star told Elle that it would be painful — for reasons other than the obvious: “I developed a friendship with [Fifty Shades of Grey director Sam Taylor-Johnson], but that was a somewhat traumatic experience for me. I didn’t want to open that wound,” Hunnam said, referring to the mystery imbroglio that resulted in him pulling out and being replaced by Jamie Dornan. Hunnam later blamed a scheduling conflict on the last minute switch, but E! speculates it was because Hunnam is a germaphobe. “Everyone thinks it’s great to be an actor and get to kiss a bunch of beautiful actresses in films, but I actually hate it,” Hunnam said. “I don’t want to kiss anyone but my girlfriend for my whole life.” That might explain why Hunnam dropped Fifty Shades, but it seems unlikely given that Christian Grey mostly kisses only one woman in those movies. Can someone tell Hunnam what he’s missing? Namely a great Chronicles of Riddick cross-promotion and those good Beyoncé covers. Your loss.
