Empire: Bryshere Gray Teases Hakeems Lady & Baby Drama on Midseason Finale

Posted by Aldo Pusey on Tuesday, August 13, 2024

As “Empire” enters its midseason finale Wednesday night, Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray) could be entering baby daddy territory.

Another problem on the horizon? Camilla Marks, played by supermodel Naomi Campbell, makes her return on tonight’s episode. She’s back for her much younger ex-lover, Hakeem, who’s caught in a tough spot between his family, Camilla and his new lady friend, Laura (Jamila Velazquez).

“He’s deeply in love with the character Laura, who’s the new Hispanic lead singer in his group, Ménage a Trois, and they have formed a relationship that he desires,” Gray tells Variety.

But let’s go back to that baby bombshell; Hakeem’s former hookup Anika (Grace Gealey) — and former fiancee of his father Lucious (Terrence Howard) — has been trying to tell Hakeem that she is pregnant with his child over the past few episodes, but she has yet to spill the secret. Though anything could happen, all signs point to Anika carrying Hakeem’s baby, and “Empire” showrunner Ilene Chaiken previously told Variety, “We have have every reason to believe that,” while adding that “Boo Boo Kitty’s” crazy antics won’t stop anytime soon.

So, will Hakeem and the Lyon family finally find out about the pregnancy this week?

“I don’t know. I would hope so. It’s going to be his first baby in life,” Gray says, adding, “We all know he’s not ready to be a father. I ain’t ready yet, y’all! So we’re were going to see what the outcome is.”

Aside from his romantic woes, Hakeem has also stirred the pot many times with Lucious, most recently refusing to sign with his Empire record label, deciding to stay on his mother’s side at Cookie’s Lyon Dynasty.

“Family always sticks together. Whether we have ups and downs, at the end of the day we have each other’s back,” Gray says, alluding to the midseason finale, which he calls, “exciting, intense and unpredictable.”
