Mia Hamm and Nomar Garciaparra's twin secret: Teamwork

Mia Hamm and Nomar Garciaparra are familiar with the importance of strategizing given their accomplishments in their sports, but Mia says that’s carried over to parenting — she and Nomar made the decision to put their 10-month-old twin daughters, Ava Caroline and Grace Isabella, in separate rooms. Mia reveals,

They sleep in different rooms right now, so I have the monitor for one and he has one for the other. When my monitor goes off, I go. When his goes off, he goes.

For his part, Dodgers shortstop Nomar, 34, says that he doesn’t mind getting up at night, but diapers were initially frustrating for him as ‘there was no manual for that. With two you have to [change them].‘ Another annoyance particular to twins?

They didn’t tell you how to pick up bothof them at the same time.

Mia, 35, adds,

Or who to pick up first when they are both crying. It doesn’t tell you that. You’re afraid if you go to one the other isgoing to be hurt.

The gold medal winning former soccer star is keeping busy training for a half-marathon and has her hands full with Ava and Grace, but don’t count her and Nomar out just yet — she says their family may not be complete.

[There’s] potential [for more]. If we’re blessed with another one, that’s fantastic. There are challenges. In the earlymorning, you’re thinking ‘Man, I could really use another half hour ofsleep.’ But you go in and it’s those smiles, they look at you likeyou’re a superhero.
