They say you can't keep a good woman down for long - and Myleene Klass is intent on bouncing right to the top of the fashion agenda with the launch of her first ever collection as part of Littlewoods' autumn/winter 2012 stable of celebrity designers. We catch up with the mumtrepreneur about impractical shoes, her mum's killer style advice and her daughters' take on dressing up...
1. What was the inspiration behind your Littlewoods collection? I wanted to design clothes for women that would actually be worn, are glamorous, chic, stylish and practical. There's no point in me trying to make an impact with a light installation for a dress which, whilst impressive and headline-grabbing, isn't going to be practical for women - myself included - to wear each day!
2. Do you have any favourite pieces? If so, which - and why? I love the biker jacket. It's versatile enough to go on top of dresses to give them an edgier look, as well as to glam up a pair of jeans or dress down an evening dress. I also love the body-con dresses in black and blue [pictured] for their versatility, and the red tie dress for its impact.
3. How would you describe your own personal style? Classic, fun, practical. (Bar my shoe collection, which is far from practical!)
4. What's the best piece of fashion advice your mum ever gave you? Never leave the house without applying your lipstick! I don't think my mum meant for me to take it literally - more just the idea that you should make an effort even if you don't feel like it. It will make you look good and in turn, you'll feel good.
5. Are your daughters interested in fashion yet? What do they enjoy wearing? My daughters love to dress up. They have a dress-up box and also play in my dressing room. I put all their favourite shoes on the lower shelves so they can play with them. When I was growing up, my friend's mum used to lock her designer clothes away from her and I remember sneaking in and trying everything on with her, then getting into trouble. I don't want that for my girls. They play with all of my clothes. I want them to enjoy them like I do and have happy memories of raiding my shoe collection.
